Use of Roller Conveyor Systems

When we collect our luggage before leaving the airport, the luggage often arrives in a long moving belt. That’s a conveyor belt. A conveyor system is a piece of mechanical handling equipment which is used to move materials from one end of the production cycle to another. Conveyor systems are particularly useful where either transportation of bulky and heavy materials are involved or there is a long production cycle involved. These are a quick and efficient mode of transportation for different kinds of materials, which makes it rather popular in the packaging and material handling industries. Some of the industries which use these conveyor systems are , automotive, mining, agricultural, computer andelectronics, aerospace, food processing, pharmaceutical, bottling, chemical, bottling and canning, print finishing and packaging.

Apart from these, conveyor systems are also widely used for certain consumer applications such as in supermarkets. Different kinds of conveyor systems are available which are used for various industries. There are chain conveyors (floor and overhead) as well and roller conveyor systems. Chain conveyors consist of enclosed tracks, I-Beam, towline, power & free, and hand pushed trolleys. And roller conveyor systems are one of the most commonly purchased and used conveyor systems used in a variety of industries.

Roller Conveyor Systems and its uses

Roller conveyor systems are those conveyors which use parallel rollers mounted on frames to transport products either by gravity or by manually. These are primarily used in material handling applications such as airport baggage handling, assembly lines or loading docks. These can be either straight or curved depending on the application and floor space available.

Some heavy duty roller conveyor systems are used for transporting items weighing at least 500 pounds. Many of these powerful roller conveyors can move as fast as 75 feet per minute.

Other types of roller conveyor systems are:

  • Chain driven live roller conveyor,
  • Lineshaft roller conveyors
  • Gravity roller conveyor
  • Motorised Roller Conveyor.
  • Foldable Roller conveyors

Gravity roller conveyors:- are relatively simple to use and are used in many different types of industries such as automotive and retail.

Chain driven live roller conveyors on the other hand, are used for single or two-directional material handling. Very large heavy loads are typically moved by chain driven live roller conveyors.

A lineshaft roller conveyor or line-shaft conveyor as it is commonly referred to , is powered by a shaft beneath rollers. These conveyors are comparatively used for lighter applications up to 50 kg like cardboard and tote boxes.A huge benefit of the lineshaft roller conveyor systems are they have a quiet operation, simple installation, requiring low to moderate maintenance and are cost effective. These are also extremely safe for people who work around these, because the elastic belts can stretch and injuries are rare, if a finger gets caught underneath them.

Motorized Roller Conveyors are basically zero pressure, non-contact accumulation conveyor systems which are mostly used for handling delicate products or products of varying dimensions, which are required to be queued together without touching one another.

Foldable roller conveyor systems which are used for logistics application and to increase production. They are usually mobile and flexible in length and shape. The length of these kind of roller conveyors is easy to adjust and they can also be curved easily. Foldable roller conveyors are suitable for different applications.

Because of its wide variety of applications, roller conveyor systems have become very useful in many industries, as it has been able to reduce manual labour effort significantly. And they are extremely safe.

So, which conveyor system do you use for your business?
